Are women being left behind in high-paying industries like construction and technology?

Do you know what the issue is with the image above?

It reflects a gender gap problem in Australia.

According to Seek, here are the average annual salaries for each woman in the picture:

  • Renne, as a Receptionist, is likely to earn from $50,000 to $60,000 per year.
  • Vicky, as a Childcare Worker, can receive from $55,000 to $65,000.
  • Amanda, as an Electrician, can earn from $85,000 to $105,000.
  • Camila, as a Cloud Engineer, has the potential to make $120,000 to $140,000 a year.

Women have the freedom to pursue any career that aligns with their needs, interests, and personality traits. Salary shouldn’t be the sole determining factor in their decision. However, women often find themselves in sectors that are traditionally female-dominated, such as Education, Health Care, and Customer Services.

Due to a lack of support and information, they miss out on opportunities in fast-growing industries like Construction and Technology, where higher salaries exist.

In the construction industry, women only represent 3% of workers. Among the 25 fastest-growing tech roles in Australia, men dominate 19 of them. The gender gap is particularly significant in certain areas:

  • Site Reliability Engineers: 12% female, 88% male
  • Platform Engineers Design: 15% female, 85% male
  • Cloud Engineers: 15% female, 85% male
  • Service Desk Engineers: 8% female, 92% male

We want women to be aware of all the opportunities available in the job market so they can make informed decisions.

They should also know that they can thrive in male-dominated fields. If they feel intimidated, they can find support to overcome any obstacles.

Our mission is to make sure that every woman in Australia has access to a career that suits her, rather than conforming to societal expectations.
